The Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center

The Nansen Center is an independent research institute, organized as a foundation, with cutting-edge expertise in research into physical and biological conditions in our near sea areas, in the Arctic and globally. In our research work, we use data from direct measurements and from satellites, and advanced models and methods to understand and forecast changes in the marine environment and climate.

Our research primarily takes place in collaboration with other research environments, but also with business and public actors. The organization is project-based with funding from the Research Council of Norway, the European Commission, various national and international space organizations, agencies, and research funds, as well as basic funding from the Ministry of Climate and the Environment. The Nansen Center has about 70 employees from more than 20 different countries.
