To be able to report, you need to have a user account with BarentsWatch with extended access, be logged in, and have a fishing vessel connected to your user account.
Once you have obtained extended access to FiskInfo, you will see the name of the boat you are connected to on the left side of the map.
If you have obtained extended access to FiskInfo, simply follow the instructions here:
Registration of fishing gear can be done in three different ways:
1) Log positions.
2) Draw positions.
3) Write positions.
Log Positions (only works if you are connected to AIS)
Press "Log Positions" to start automatic drawing of gear positions. Wait until you have finished setting the gear before pressing "Next." If you have AIS, this is the easiest way to report gear placement.
Fill in Gear Type
After you have progressed, you must fill in the type of gear you have set and the time of placement. Then press "Submit." Information about the gear you have reported will be displayed in the panel. To see more detailed information about the gear, click "View Gear."
Press "Draw Positions." You will now see a drawing tool on the map. To report gear placement, you must select a starting point. In the panel below, you have the option to click the "Move Drawing Tool to Your Vessel" button if you want to start from your vessel's current position. You can also move the marker to your desired location and choose the starting point afterward. Click "Select Point" to start reporting the gear. Mark the area where you have placed the gear by dragging the marker around the map and selecting multiple points. Once you have finished marking, fill in the gear type and time, and click "Submit."
Press "Write Positions." The panel will open. Check either "Decimal Degrees" or "Degrees and Decimal Minutes." If you are connected to AIS, you can press the AIS button, and the vessel's position will automatically fill in the fields. This applies to both options. If you are not connected to AIS, you can press the map marker button and choose a point on the map. It is also possible to enter the coordinates directly into the text fields.
Marker Field Appears on the Map
When you press the map marker button, you will now see a marker with a large number 1 on the map. Move the marker to the position where you will report gear by panning the map. In the panel, you will see coordinates for the chosen position. You can also add more points by clicking the "Add Point" button, for example, if the gear is placed in a line. Press the blue button in the panel to confirm the position selection (bottom left). Click "Review and Submit" to report the gear.
Review the Information
Review that the information you have entered is correct, and then press "Submit" for final confirmation. Please note that it may take some time before the gear you have reported is confirmed by the Coast Guard and visible to others.
Report rearing and retrieval of fishing gear
There are two ways to report either continue using the fishing gear or retrieval. In the "Gear in the Sea" list, which you can find by clicking on the fishing hook symbol in the panel and then dragging the panel up, there are specific buttons for this for all gear that has been reported as set.
You can also go into each individual gear in the list and report from there.
Report lost gear
To report lost gear that has either not been set or has been found abandoned, do the following:
Click on the fishing hook symbol in the panel (bottom of the page) and drag the panel up. Then press the "Report Lost Gear" button.
The panel will open. Check either "Decimal Degrees" or "Degrees and Decimal Minutes." Press the AIS button if you are connected to AIS, and the vessel's position will automatically fill in the fields. If you are not connected to AIS, you can press the map marker button (to the left of the AIS button).
Pressing the map marker button will open the map, and a marker with a large number 1 will become visible. By dragging around the map, you can place the marker at the position where you will report lost gear. In the panel, you will see precise coordinates for the selected position. Click the blue button in the panel to confirm the position selection (bottom left). You will then be returned to the page you were on previously, but now the fields have been filled in with the exact position of the vessel. You can also add more points by clicking the "Add Point" button. Once you have entered the correct position for the vessel, click "Review and Submit."
Fill out the form to report lost gear. Detailed descriptions make it easier for the Fisheries Directorate to locate the gear. Review that the information is correct and press "Submit." The gear has now been reported as lost.
To report your own lost gear that has been set, do the following:
Click on the fishing hook symbol in the panel. When you open the panel, you will see an overview of all the gear you have set in the sea. The quickest way to report your own lost gear (that has been set) is to click the "Lost" button that corresponds to the specific gear you want to report as lost. Clicking this button will take you directly to a form where you must fill in information about the gear you are reporting as lost. Review the information and press "Submit." You have now reported your own lost gear.
Another way to report your own lost gear (that has been set) is to click directly on one of your gear items in the list. You will then see information about that particular gear. Here, you will also find a "Lost" button. Click "Lost" to report your own lost gear. Fill out the form, review it, and press "Submit." Once the form is submitted, you will receive confirmation that it has been sent.
In retrospect, lost gear can be marked as found. If you go to "My Gear" in FiskInfo, you will see a list of "Lost Gear," and you can mark lost gear as found there.
