Processing of personal data

1. Why do we collect personal information and what type of information do we collect

We collect and use your personal information for various purposes, depending on who you are and how we interact with you. We collect the following personal information for the specified purposes:

  • Newsletter and information about our activities: Email address. Processing is based on our agreement with you.
  • Access to the services FishInfo, ArcticInfo, and subscription to polar low-pressure alerts: Processing is based on an agreement.
  • Recruitment for new positions: CV, application, certificates, and references. Processing of personal information is based on the consent you have given.
  • Other inquiries that come to us: Name, phone number, email address, and any personal information that may arise from the inquiry. The processing of personal information is based on a balancing of interests. We have assessed that this is often necessary for us to assist you with your inquiries.
  • We do not collect personal information through the use of cookies. Details about the cookies we use can be found here.

2. Disclosure of personal information to others

We do not disclose your personal information to others unless there is a legal basis for such disclosure. Your information may be shared with other public authorities when necessary for reporting, processing, etc.

BarentsWatch uses data processors to collect, store, or otherwise process personal information on our behalf. In such cases, we have entered into agreements to ensure information security at all stages of processing. We currently use the following data processors:

  • Bouvet Norge AS is BarentsWatch's service provider for the services on barentswatch.no.

All processing of personal information that we undertake occurs within the EU/EEA area.

3. Storage period

We store your personal information with us as long as necessary for the purpose for which the personal information was collected. This means that we will delete your personal information if you unsubscribe from one of our services or wish to delete your user access in FishInfo or ArcticInfo.

If we process your personal information as part of case processing or the exercise of public authority, for example, in response to a request for access, we will store your personal information in accordance with the Archives Act.

Personal information we process to fulfill an agreement with you will be deleted when the agreement is fulfilled, and all obligations arising from the contractual relationship are fulfilled.

4. Your rights when we process your personal information

You have the right to request access, correction, or deletion of the personal information we process about you. You also have the right to request restricted processing, object to processing, and request data portability. To exercise your rights, you must contact us by sending an email to post@barentswatch.no. We will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible, and no later than 30 days.

We will ask you to confirm your identity or provide additional information before allowing you to exercise your rights with us. We do this to ensure that we only provide access to your personal information to you – and not to anyone pretending to be you.

5. Complaints 

If you believe that our processing of personal information does not align with what we have described here or that we otherwise violate privacy legislation, you can complain to the Data Inspectorate.

6. Changes 

If there are changes to our services or changes in the regulations on the processing of personal information, it may result in changes to the information provided here.
